So far in Romans I have been challenged by chapters 1-3, we are all under the (a) law and thus guilty before God. Romans 4 paints the picture of God’s wonderful grace that reaches in and makes us clean for no other reason than that he cares for us. Romans 5 reminds us that it is faith that allows us to stand in this grace. Now Romans 6 begins to paint a picture of living out this faith "obediently from the heart" and not as legalistically under law. Grace changes our heart and new life flows from that. This is how we "become" who we are in Christ and not "mandate" who we are in Christ.
