The new covenant, this new paradigm for relating to God personally and not religiously, was inaugurated once and for all with the blood of Jesus the perfect sacrifice (why blood? see vs 11-14). Jesus as the perfect and final sacrifice entered into the ultimate temple (heaven) and having risen alive from the dead, continually interceeds for us making direct relationship with a holy God possible. Why is this even necessary? Verses 27 and 28 say “and inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgement So Christ also having once been offered to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him”. Our sin when unaccounted for leaves us open to judgement. Our sin, forgiven by God because of Jesus, clears the way for relationship with God and the eager expectation of Christ’s return.
