In these verses both Jesus and believers are called living stones. Why? Jesus as a living stone is choice and precious to God, a cornerstone, the main foundation for the building which is the house and community of the faithful. For believers, we make up the components of a “spiritual house”, a community of believers. In each case building a community of faith is central to the imagery of the “living stone”.
