1 Peter 2:13-25; honoring authority

Our culture has a tradition of valuing and producing strongly independant people.  When we come up against authority our tendency is to resist and question it.  Honest questioning is good, but these verses remind us of the humble call of God on our lives to be willing to submit to authority…”kings, governors and masters”.  Why?  Our submission “silences the ignorance of foolish men” and if the submission brings “harsh treatment”, we “find favor with God”.  This passage then ends with the example of our Lord, Jesus in His perfect submission.
