Isaiah 9; The Light of the world is promised

In Isaiah 8 we see the immediate promise of the child, Maher-shalal-hash-baz, fulfilled as a promise of God’s faithfullness to Ahaz and the nation of Israel.  “See this as a promise I am with you”, says the Lord.  We looked ahead to the more complete fulfillment of that promise in Jesus as seen in the Gospels.  Isaiah 9 makes explicit this bigger idea of the coming child as the universal savior of the world , the “Light of the world, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God”.  Compare this promise with its fulfillment in Jesus from John 8:12 ff.  Jesus says, “I am the Light of the World”.  The child of Light prophesied in Isaiah 9 is manifested hundreds of years later in the person of Jesus Christ.  He is the expected one the child become Lord and Savior played out in actual time, space and history.   Have you met this “Light of the World”?  John 8:12-59 is a clear picture on who this Light is and what He offers to those who follow…
