Isaiah 34-35; Judgement followed by redemption

These 2 chapters when compared show a stark contrast.  Chapter 34 illustrates God’s judgement over those who do not follow Him.  But the promise of His coming to His people in chapter 35 provides comfort and foreshadows the coming Messiah.  In responding to John the baptist’s query as to His messiahship in Matthew 11:5, Jesus quotes some of Isaiah 35:5,6 to essentially positively affirm John’s question.  God’s promise to restore His people in Isaiah 35 is fulfilled in the person and ministry of Jesus the Messiah.
