Some facts on Facial Nerve Paralysis (aka Bell’s Palsy)

In its most common presentation the acute drooping of one half of the face known as Bell’s Palsy, is thought to be caused by Herpes Simplex irritation of the 7th cranial nerve (aka “Facial” nerve).  Certain medications like steroids and in some cases antiviral antibiotics can help to shorten the duration of symptoms.  See the link below regarding interesting summary information including the role of physical therapy in treatment.
