This chapter begins with the statement “who has believed our message?” And the description of the person that follows, this “suffering servant”, and this servant’s ministry would be completely unbelievable had we not seen it fulfilled. Isaiah is promising his people that one day a servant of God would appear and minister complete spiritual renewal to them. Promises of bearing griefs, pierced for transgressions, healings and forgiveness, all done in complete obedience to His God and His mission despite the physical and spiritual cost it entailed. Yes, this sort of ministry to us lost people seemed unbelievable until Messiah Jesus appeared on the world stage of history and fulfilled each of these prophecies. Faithful Israel looked ahead and rejoiced when they saw Jesus appear. We look back in amazement at His ministry and resurrection and commit ourselves in faith to Him.
