It is interesting to see how the Old Testament appropriates God’s protection in our lives. Proverbs 3 (integrity as a shield) and Hosea (hedge protecting both wayward and faithful saints) are just 2 examples. In this section of Psalm 119 we see another example. God’s word and its wisdom provides protection from the double minded. The patience it instructs allows us a safe hiding place and shield. It allows us a standard to distance ourselves from “evil doers”. It provides sustenance and “upholding”. And it puts us in our proper place before God, “my flesh trembles for fear of You”. So often we pray for protection. These are specific examples and paradigms of protection that we can ask God to work in our lives.
