1 John 1:1-4; Fellowship based on objective encounter

The uniqueness of Christian fellowship can be seen in these verses.  The “what” that was seen, heard and looked at is both from the beginning of time and immediately present to the “we”.  The we is John and the apostolic witness.  The what is the Word of Life, Jesus Christ.  The fellowship is our relationships in Christian faith communities.  All of this anchored in the real historical life of our Lord.  Ultimately what we believe as Christians is anchored not in philosophy or logic but in the historical event of the life of Christ.  This historical event has produced a movement that is internally and logically consistent but only inasmuch as we focus on the reality, then and now, of the Word of Life.
