1 John 3:4-23; Walking the walk

We all know walking the walk is a lot harder than talking the talk.  In these verses John applies that principle.  After coming to purity as children of God through Christ, life change will happen.  Verse 5 states Jesus appeared in order to take away sins.  The new creation, abiding in Him should not make sinful choices a common practice.  It is true that even in our new child of God state we fall short and sin (1 John 1:8) but that should be the exception and not the rule.  When we hit these tough times, how can we be reminded and reassured of our salvation?  The remaining verses of this section emphasize the presence and application of our love for “the brethren” is strong evidence of real change within us.  Lord, help us to live this new life in steadfastness and love.
